The Emotional Fashion Film: Sleepwalking in the Rift

I'm speechless after watching the fashion film "Sleepwalking in the Rift" for the Maiyet Resort 2013 collection. Accompanied by a powerful score and beautiful visuals, director Cary Fukunaga (Jane Eyre) creates a stunning narrative fashion film in a mere two minutes. His filming style is distinct and unique to his personal vision and comes across here. The voiceovers provide an intimate view into the characters of the film, something that is most commonly substituted with any random model for most fashion films and campaigns.

Most fashion films leave us feeling satisfied with the visuals but I love finding rare films like these that make the fashion industry and the collaboration between fashion and the visual arts seem worthwhile, new and meaningful. I think what makes this so incredible is the use of a feature film director to shoot a short film. I think fashion filmmakers need to start thinking in narratives or stories to make the campaign impactful. It isn't enough to just look pretty, I  hope we start seeing films with more depth than what people have been used to in the past.

After one of the best times of my life I came back to Ithaca and did an amazing photo shoot with friends and started my last semester at IC off to a great start:

I was also in my senior capstone class in photography at my college and had an amazing senior show. Below are a few pictures from my workshop project on the formation of identity in adolescent girls:
