Hors d'oeuvre

This new fashion film, directed by Monica Menez, has the set design of a Vogue shoot and the casting of an Erwin Olaf series (excuse the Erwin Olaf references, he has been a huge influencing factor for my work lately). One of the comments on the vimeo page was "not sure what I just watched, but I loved it!" That pretty much sums up my reaction to the video as well. It was strange and unusual for the sake of being weird and I think it was curious enough to be memorable. It was slightly bizarre and playful with a serious look.

Notebook Inspiration

I have a notebook/sketchbook where I jot down ideas for shoots or write down things that inspire me so that I can come back to them later. I also try to sketch lighting schemes and paste in images that I am drawn to for one reason or another. I always love looking at other peoples' sketchbooks or inspiration books or places where people write notes down to remember later. These are just a few very cool examples I found to get me going on my creative streak today.

Erwin Olaf, Berlin

I have been a huge fan of Erwin Olaf for a while now. His new series, Berlin, was photographed earlier this year actually during the time I was living there. His amazing tableaus leave us questioning the actions and narrative yet captivate us because of the uncertainty and the beauty of the light, curious situation and wonderful casting. I also love that each image on his website can be downloaded at a fairly large size to ensure that when he gets his images out there they will all be replicated at a high quality which makes sense for the high quality production value of his images. Check out his website

See You At Sundown

I'm a big fan of this editorial photographed by Will Davidson for the December 2012 issue of Vogue Australia. The soft easy tones of the images and the laid-back styling give the shoot a relaxed mood by giving a slight nod to vintage editorials. It feels intimate by following the model through a collected tableau of scenes and situations.
